Auckland police are looking for a Good Samaritan who comforted a young girl seriously hurt after being hit by a car.

The incident happened on Thursday afternoon on Commissariat Rd in Mt Wellington, around 3pm.

Police say the driver stopped to help, and another woman - not involved in the accident - stayed with the girl to keep her calm, but only until the ambulance arrived.

The girl is in hospital in a stable condition.

If you're the second woman, police want you to call (09) 302 6400 so you can give a statement.
