Multiple people are believed to have been injured in a serious crash in Whanganui.
Emergency services were called to the scene after two vehicles collided on State Highway 4, south of Kākātahi, at about 7pm on Sunday evening.
Police say initial indications are that multiple people have been hurt in the crash.
The road has been completely closed off and is likely to remain closed for some time.
Police have urged motorists to delay travelling in the affected area or to take an alternative route.
Whanganui was hit with heavy rain and wind on Sunday, along with much of the North Island.
