A body has been found at University of Canterbury residence, police said in a statement.
The man was discovered on Monday night, and specialist teams are helping with the ongoing identification process.
Stuff is reporting the body had been there for nearly two months.
A post mortem took place on Tuesday night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Johnson said a number of inquiries are being made to determine what happened.
Det Snr Sgt Johnson said the Coroner and the University of Canterbury are working with police on the matter.
