Auckland rugby fans heading to Hamilton should expect delays following a serious crash near Hampton Downs.
Two people have been flown to hospital with critical injuries, and two others have been taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance.
Police say the crash is blocking a southbound lane of State Highway 1, and people are asked to avoid the area or delay their travel if possible.
In a separate incident, a pedestrian struck by a car in Christchurch has died
They were hit at or near the intersection of Ferry Rd and Olliviers Rd at 11:45am.
Police say diversions are in place and motorists are advised to stay away.
The serious crash unit is investigating.
