Lanes closed on Auckland Harbour Bridge after crash

All southbound lanes on Auckland's Harbour Bridge have been reopened after a crash Monday morning.

Earlier in the morning all southbound lanes were blocked due to the crash, causing havoc for commuters on their way into the city.

Police said they were called to the crash - involving a road-marking truck and a car - around 4:45am.

The truck crashed and caught fire at the base of the bridge, with paint and diesel spilled across two of the bridge's lanes.

No one was injured in the incident.

Motorists were  warned to expect delays of around 90 minutes. According to the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), traffic remains backed up but is now starting to move.

A 70km/h speed limit was in place in lanes one and two, because of diesel residue on the road, the NZTA said.

"Motorists are advised to delay non-essential travel on SH1 until after the morning peak and avoid the area if possible.  There are also significant delays on the Western Ring Route," NZTA said in a statement.
