Police have arrested one person following a firearms incident on Te Ngae Road in Owhata, a suburb of Rotorua.
Police had been following a vehicle, believed to be stolen, at around 5:35pm on Sunday.
A man exited the car and fired at police, hitting the patrol car, says Acting Rotorua Area Commander, Inspector Brendon Keenan.
A person sustained moderate injuries during the incident.
The alleged offender then threatened a bystander and stole their vehicle, before stopping at another address further down Te Ngae Road and taking a second vehicle.
The car was pursued by police and was spiked, stopping on State Highway 30 near Okatina Road.
A firearm has been recovered and the alleged offender has been taken into custody.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
