Police arrest one of Lois Tolley's alleged killers nearly three years on

A man has been arrested for the 2016 murder of Lois Tolley in Upper Hutt.

Four intruders broke into Tolley's Upper Hutt home and shot her as she tried to escape, leaving her dead on the floor.

Police said a 27-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday and is due to appear in the Hutt Valley District Court on Wednesday.

Inspector Scott Miller said the investigation remains ongoing.

"We are pleased that this arrest will help bring some closure to Lois' family and the Upper Hutt community."

The investigation began with more than 130 persons of interest and had included interviewing people in Australia.

"Omg I can't breath [sic] my girl your day of justice is coming," close friend Jacinda Lea Markopoulos wrote on Facebook following the arrest announcement.

Tolley, 30, was viciously stabbed and shot at close range just before midnight on Friday, December 9, 2016. Police described it as an "execution-style" killing.

A year later, a dozen people remained of interest to police in connection to the murder.

In 2017, Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Barnett said he was "absolutely confident" arrests would be made.

After Tolley's death, Markopoulos said she was heartbroken.

"My darling girl words can not explain how I'm feeling, I'm so lost I can't believe this," she wrote on Facebook at the time.

Police said on Wednesday that people who have already been spoken to may be approached again as part of the investigation.
