Man killed after Lime e-scooter fatal accident was Toben Hunt

The man killed after an fatal accident involving a Lime e-scooter has been named as Toben John Hunt.

Hunt was left in a critical condition after falling from a Lime e-scooter on Monday, September 16. Police revealed he had since died on Friday.

His family has asked for privacy in the wake of the accident.

"We make this appeal for privacy also on behalf of those close to us, who wish to remember and celebrate his life in peace and quiet."

Lime responded to the incident on Saturday to say it was "deeply saddened" by the news. 

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with the rider’s family and loved ones during this extremely difficult time," Lime NZ public affairs manager Lauren Mentjox said in a statement.

Auckland Council expressed similar sentiments on Friday.Director of regulatory services Craig Hobbs told Newshub it's "extremely saddened" by the news.

"We are currently in the final six weeks of phase two of our trial, and we will soon be evaluating what we have learned and the information we have gathered during the trial. It is too soon to anticipate what the evaluation will conclude."

Councillor Christine Fletcher accused Lime of removing its scooter from the scene in the wake of the accident on Monday, September 23.

"Before the ambulance could even arrive on the scene, Lime arrived on the scene and removed the evidence," she told The AM Show.

Lime later told the council it had carried out a "thorough assessment" of the scooter involved in the accident and concluded that there was no mechanical fault. 

Mentjox responded to Fletcher's claims in a statement, saying Lime was cooperating fully with the investigation.

A police spokesperson confirmed that authorities have obtained the exact scooter involved and Lime is cooperating with the investigation.
