A small explosive device was found in an abandoned vehicle after a two-car crash in the Wellington suburb of Newtown on Sunday, police confirmed.
A police statement said cordons were put in place after an "item of concern" was found in the abandoned Ford Explorer, on Hutchison Rd.

The vehicle had been abandoned after its driver fled the scene of a two-vehicle crash at about 12:15pm.
Police confirmed to Newshub the item was a small explosive device. It was "made safe" by the New Zealand Defence Force, and cordons were lifted about 3:30pm.
Inquiries are continuing to locate the driver, police said.
"Information can be provided by calling 105, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
