Two men have been arrested after a cannabis bust in Tasman.

The arrests came after a months-long covert police investigation into the cultivation and supply of cannabis throughout the West Coast and Canterbury regions.

Police also seized assets worth around $5 million.

One of the men arrested - a 72-year-old from Ngahere - was arrested on September 9, while the other man - a 63-year-old - was arrested on Tuesday.

The 72-year-old was charged with possession for supply of cannabis and is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on September 30. The 63-year-old was charged with cultivating cannabis, as well as selling cannabis. He is due to appear in Greymouth District Court on Wednesday.

Police said the investigation led to the discovery of a "large undercover bunker containing a sophisticated cannabis growing operation".

"Our investigation team has spent months working to dismantle this drug supply, and in doing so have prevented significant harm reaching our communities," said Inspector Jacqui Corner, West Coast area commander.

"Drug use is a driver of numerous other crimes so operations of this nature will continue to be a priority for Tasman District Police."

A large number of firearms were also seized by police.
