Victim of Ōtāhuhu workplace accident was just 16 - police

Police say the victim of a south Auckland workplace accident was just 16.

The teenager, identified as Shaldin Joyce, was working at a commercial address on Savill Drive in the suburb of Ōtāhuhu when the accident occurred. It is believed a forklift fell on the young man.

Emergency services were notified of the accident at around 1:30pm on Monday, however Joyce died at the scene.

"Our sympathies are with his family during this difficult time," a police spokesperson says.

WorkSafe has been notified of the fatality.
