A man has been arrested after a woman was stabbed in central Christchurch.
Police were called to Gamblins Rd, St Martins on Wednesday morning. The victim was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
On Thursday a 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
He will appear in the Christchurch District Court this afternoon.
Detective Senior Sergeant Nicola Reeves says police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the assault.
"Police take this sort of matter very seriously and have worked quickly to identify and apprehend the person responsible," she says.
"We want to reassure the public that there is no risk to their safety."
