An earthquake has hit the east coast, just 5km south-west of Gisborne.
The quake measured as 4.2 on the Richter scale, with the shaking described as "moderate."
Genoet reports it struck at 8:11 on Monday morning, and 283 people have reported feeling the shaking so far.
The quake hit at a depth of 24 km.
