A man has been arrested in relation to the shooting in Foxton on Monday.

Multiple local schools went into lockdown yesterday after a man was seriously injured in a firearms incident at a property on Main St. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Earlier on Tuesday police said they'd found the firearm believed to have been used in the incident but were still continuing to search for the offender.

On Tuesday afternoon it was announced a 46-year-old has been arrested after a day-long search. Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.

A scene examination is expected to continue overnight and police will continue to make enquiries into what happened.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan has thanked the Foxton public for their help.
