Several hurt in overnight crashes

Two early-morning crashes have left multiple people with serious injuries. 

St John was called to an accident in Bombay, south of Auckland, just after 1am. Three people were taken to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.

Meanwhile further north, emergency services were called to Ruawai, near Dargaville, just after 2am. Five people were transported to Northland Base Hospital - three of them in serious condition. 

So far this year 267 people have lost their lives on New Zealand roads - at the same time last year, 293 had died.
