The Governor-General is heading on a week-long tour to Japan and the Republic of Korea.
Dame Patsy Reddy is departing for Japan on Sunday to represent the country at the Emperor's enthronement ceremony on Tuesday.
Reddy will also be meeting Prime Minister Shinzo Abe before heading to South Korea. There she will visit the graves of 32 Kiwis who fought in the Korean war.
The trip ends with a naming ceremony for the Royal New Zealand Navy's new vessel, of which Dame Patsy is the sponsor.
Her trip ends on Friday.
