Axe-wielding man robs computer store day after owner's wife's funeral

A man has been arrested after robbing a Canterbury computer store a day after the owner's wife's funeral.

The offender who was wielding an axe, robbed the store at 6:14 am on Friday, November 15.

CCTV footage shows the man standing outside the store with his bike for a few minutes before smashing door with a tomahawk axe.

After breaking in, the thief runs into the store, grabs a computer and valuable electrical equipment before jumping on his bike.

Friday, November 15, the owner of Canterbury Computer Services posted on social media about the shameful timing of the incident.

"Yesterday I laid my wife and business partner Sally to rest.

"This morning some little shit on a bicycle arrived at the shop at 06:07 and then broke into the shop at 06:14," posted Canterbury Computer Services to social media.

The Canterbury computer store also warned customers not to approach the man as he is armed with a tomahawk / axe.

Luckily, the computers have since been recovered, however "unfortunately scuffed," a Facebook post said.

NZME reported a 28-year-old man will be charged with burglary on Wednesday and will appear in the Christchurch District Court.
