A woman allegedly assaulted in a Hamilton suburb on Saturday has died, prompting a homicide investigation.

At about 6:30pm on Saturday, police were called to a property on Churchill Ave, Maeroa to find 38-year-old Crystal-Lee Selwyn had been allegedly assaulted.

She was transported to hospital in a serious condition, but has since died.

Police said on Tuesday night that it was a "tragic incident" for Selwyn's family.

"We are ensuring they receive the appropriate support. If you, or someone you know, is at physical or emotional risk, please let someone know."

A 36-year-old man appeared in the Hamilton District Court on Monday charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and was remanded until December 2.

Police said on Tuesday that charges will be reviewed before that appearance.

A GiveALittle has been set up for Selwyn's family and has raised more than $3500 in less than two days.

The page said she was an "amazing mum of 8 great kids, a daughter, a friend, a cousin and a niece".

"The Koha is to help her family with the funeral arrangements and to help support the kids through this extremely difficult time."
