Police on Sunday took a "dangerous" man linked to an assault on a woman in Aranui into custody.

They were called to the Christchurch suburb about 11am on Saturday and found a woman seriously injured in a "family harm incident". She's now in hospital.

Police on Saturday morning said they'd like to speak with 41-year-old Michael Parker. In a photo provided by police, Parker is shown to be bald with a light-coloured moustache and swastika tattoos on his neck.

"Parker is considered dangerous and should not be approached," they said.

He was located soon after police put out a call for public help.
