Shocking footage shows driver for 'luxury' coachline using cellphone, taking hands off the wheel

A driver for a premium coachline company has been filmed using his phone while driving.

The employee of Leopard Coachlines, which claims to be New Zealand's "premium luxury coachline", was captured driving dangerously close to a vehicle on Auckland's northwestern motorway.

The owner of the tailed vehicle, who has chosen not to be identified, managed to capture the coachman's driving with his rear dashcam on Tuesday evening.

The coach can be seen getting "crazy close" to the back of the man's vehicle. The coachman is then seen taking out his cellphone, proceeding to use the device with both of his hands off the wheel.

"You're driving a 26-tonne bus and using a cellphone," the man, who shared his dashcam footage to YouTube, captioned the video.

"[The driver] continued to drive erratically," he told Newshub.

"I'm absolutely disgusted at his disregard for other people's safety."

The man labelled the coachman "a complete moron" when he uploaded his footage to YouTube on Tuesday.

He said he decided to share the video publicly in light of recent accidents, such as the horrific bus crash near Rotorua in September which killed five people.

The man sent the footage to Leopard Coachlines on Wednesday and is awaiting their response.

NZ Police said they have been made aware of the dangerous driving and will be making follow-up inquiries.

"Driving without distractions is critical to ensuring your safety, that of your passengers and all other road users," a police spokesperson told Newshub.

"Please put away your cellphone and ensure you pay attention to the road.

"If you see concerning driving behaviour, please call police on 555. If there is an immediate risk to public safety, call 111."

Leopard Coachlines has been contacted for comment.
