U2 fans travelling from Dunedin to Auckland late Saturday afternoon were left disappointed after an Air New Zealand flight scheduled to leave at 4:45 pm was canceled.

The same misfortune fell on U2 fans scheduled to travel from Nelson on NZ5074, which was scheduled to leave at 4:15 pm.

Both flights were canceled as a result of "adverse weather" NZME reports.

A spokesperson said the Dunedin cancellation was the result of the incoming flight from Auckland to Dunedin being diverted to Christchurch as a consequence of "extreme wind and resulting turbulence".

"This meant the cancellation of the return NZ674 flight from Dunedin to Auckland."

As for Nelson, "low visibility and deteriorating conditions meant that landing in Nelson was not possible, therefore this caused the cancellation of the return NZ5074 from Nelson to Auckland".

It is not known how many U2 fans were impacted by the disruption.

Air New Zealand said they rebooked passengers on other flights, however, it is unclear if that would have allowed U2 fans to arrive in Auckland in time for the 7pm concert.
