Woman charged with Ashburton murder gets name suppression

A 19-year-old woman has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a 23-year old-man in Ashburton on Friday.

She made her first appearance in the Christchurch District Court on Tuesday and was granted interim name suppression.

Police said no-one else was sought by police about the man's death.

Emergency services were called to the property on McDonald Street in Ashburton on Friday, following the death of the 23-year-old victim.

A homicide investigation was launched after he was found with critical injuries about 11:45pm.

He was unable to be revived and he died at the scene.

The accused will reappear in court on December 6.
