Dramatic footage has emerged showing a vehicle spinning out of control on State Highway 20 in Auckland on Saturday.

Within seconds the car is seen sliding across three lanes before it leaves the motorway and rolls down a bank into the trees.

The aftermath of the incident, shown in a video posted to Instagram, shows police officers with tasers walking up to the car. Luckily, emergency services say no-one was injured in the incident.

"Police observed a stolen vehicle that was reported to have been involved in an aggravated burglary in Auckland," a police spokesman told Newshub, adding the incident unfolded up 10:35am.

The spokesman said police started chasing the vehicle when the driver failed to stop for them. That was quickly abandoned due to the dangerous way the car was being driven.

Police then used road spikes, the spokesman said, but that didn't deter the driver. He continued on to Manurewa and crashed into a number of vehicles on Jutland Rd.

The driver then lost control on SH20 and rolled down a bank, the spokesman said.

"One person was arrested," he told Newshub, adding the alleged offender was a 24-year-old man.

The man was charged with failing to stop, operating a motor vehicle recklessly, excess breath alcohol and failing to stop to ascertain injury in a crash.
