Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has addressed media from Whakatane following the White Island recovery operation.
Members of the NZ Defence Force left for the island on Friday morning to recover the bodies of the victims of Monday's eruption.
Six of the eight people missing have been removed from the island, and an operation to retrieve the remaining two is ongoing.
