Two people died late on Wednesday in two separate car crashes.
At roughly 9:05pm on Wednesday night, emergency services rushed to the scene of a two-car crash on Old North Rd in Waimauku, Auckland.
Initial reports suggested two people had sustained injuries, and on Thursday morning, it was confirmed one person died at the scene.
The road was closed for a short time, but reopened after midnight. Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash.
The second fatal accident was at 10:35pm at the intersection of State Highway 1 and Rangitata Island Rd near to Ealing in the South Island.
The road continues to be blocked and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
