Two people have been charged with murder following an investigation into a man's death in the small North Island beachside community Tokomaru Bay, police say.

Raymond Neilson, the 48-year-old victim, was found in the lounge of his burning home at about 2am on December 15.

The fire was extinguished by local volunteer firefighters.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin Ford said in a statement that two men, aged 29 and 24-years-old, had been charged concerning Neilson's death.

Although no one else is sought by police, the investigation into the alleged murder is ongoing.

"We believe there are still people in the community who may have information which can help," Det Snr Sgt Ford said.

The accused will appear in the Gisborne High Court on February 3.
