White Island eruption: Jacinda Ardern, Cabinet observe minute's silence to mark week since disaster

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Cabinet ministers have observed the nationwide minute of silence in honour of the victims of the White Island eruption.

The minute's silence was held at 2:11pm on Monday, marking one week since the disaster.

On Monday afternoon, families of the victims went on a chartered boat towards the volcano to observe the minute of silence out at sea and pay tribute to their loved ones.

Sixteen people have been confirmed dead in the week since the eruption, with two bodies remaining unaccounted for on or around the island. A number remain in hospital with severe burns.
