An investigation is underway after a St John ambulance officer was assaulted on Sunday night.
At 11:30pm, emergency services were called to the St John ambulance station on Brown Rd, Warkworth.
Police believe the ambulance officer was assaulted by someone who had allegedly broken into the station to commit a burglary.
The offender then fled the scene, said a statement from Waitemata North police area commander Insp Mark Fergus, adding the ambulance officer was taken to hospital and discharged on Monday morning.
"Police immediately made enquiries to locate the offender, however, they remain outstanding," Insp Fergus said.
A scene examination is being conducted by police on Monday.
"Police officers will also be conducting area enquiries and speaking with nearby residents," Insp Fergus said.
