A Wellington bus has caught fire, forcing commuters to make a hasty escape.
Police were called to the fire in Wadestown at 7am on Tuesday.
A photo posted to Reddit shows smoke billowing from the bus.
The person who posted the image said the driver yelled at everyone to get off as the engine began to smoke.
"About 30 seconds after everyone got off the fire started," they wrote.
Another photograph posted to community Facebook group Vic Deals shows the aftermath of the fire.
The image shows the back of the Metlink bus blackened and destroyed as a firefighter looks on.
Traffic management is in place at the intersection of Vautier Avenue and Cecil Road, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
Metlink has been contacted for comment.
