A "weak" earthquake has struck off the coast of Whangamata.
According to Geonet, the quake hit at 8:18pm on Saturday and had a magnitude of 5.5.
It struck 105km northeast of Whangamata, at a depth of 309km.
More than 1500 people reported feeling the quake.
