Police are continuing to investigate an unexplained death at a Hamilton address where multiple other people were found "unwell" on New Year's Day.
Early on Wednesday morning, police were called to Casey Ave in Fairfield, where a person was found dead in "unexplained circumstances".
Police received a report that multiple people were unwell at the Fairfield property at around 3:20am on New Year's Day. Three were taken to Waikato Hospital, with one in a serious condition.
Neighbours say they didn't hear anything overnight but saw several fire engines and a large police presence, including forensic experts, in the morning. They say the house is a Housing NZ property and the current tenants had only lived there for a few months.
Whānau gathered outside and performed a haka as the body was removed from the property. A post-mortem examination took place on Thursday.
Police completed their scene examination early on Thursday afternoon.
