A person has died following a water-related incident at Whakatāne Heads in the Bay of Plenty.
The person was pulled from the water in a critical condition shortly after 2pm on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson confirmed that medical attention was administered but the individual died at the scene.
What caused the person's death remains unclear.
