A man has been charged with murder following the death of a 22-year-old in western Bay of Plenty.
Saturday night's death happened on Seaforth Rd, not far from where a man was killed on New Year's Day.
Police say there is nothing to suggest the two deaths are linked, adding there is no further risk to the community.
"A scene guard was in place at the property overnight and a scene examination will continue," Detective Sergeant Andrew Saunders said.
"Waihi Beach residents can expect to see an increased police presence in the coming days as reassurance patrols are carried out.
"We want to reiterate that these incidents involved people known to each other, and there is no risk to the wider community."
A 21-year-old man will appear in Hamilton District Court on Monday.
