A person is dead after suspected smoke inhalation at a north Auckland property.
Fire and Emergency were called out to reports of a gas-like smell on Elizabeth St in Orewa on Saturday.
On arrival, the two units found a person dead in their garage near a self-extinguished fire.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson says there were no smoke alarms in the garage.
She says it is unlikely gas was involved and an investigation is under to clarify the cause of death.
The spokesperson also said fire crews advise people to leave their house if the home is on fire.
