One person has died in a house fire in Christchurch.
Emergency services were called to Shaw Ave in New Brighton just before 6am on Monday.
"Police and Fire and Emergency New Zealand will investigate the circumstances," a statement said.
One resident told Stuff he heard people shouting when he woke up.
"Then I got out and I saw the fire and it was huge," Silvio Souza said.
"In three minutes, the house was a mess," he told Stuff.
Cordons are in place and a scene examination is underway.
