A search is underway for a person who got into trouble at St Clair Beach in Dunedin.
Ambulance and Police were called to the south end of the beach around 4:30pm on Thursday.
The search for the swimmer, believed to be male, is being assisted by surf lifesaving.
A helicopter was involved in the search earlier but has since been stood down.
Efforts will continue until dark and will be reassessed in the morning.
