Two people have burns after they tried to put out a fire on a fibreglass boat in Kawhia.

Emergency services were called to a boat ramp at the Kawhia Boating and Angling Club at 8:10am on Sunday.

Police say everyone made it off the boat, but the two that tried to save it have moderate and minor injuries and are in a state of shock.

The two injured were taken to Kawhia Medical Centre, but family members said they will drive the pair to Waikato Hospital.

Kawhia is on the west coast of the North Island, southwest of Hamilton.
