Two people have died following a crash in the Southland town of Mataura, Gore on Sunday.
Police confirmed the single-vehicle crash occurred around 5pm on State Highway 1.
Two others have also been injured in the collision.
The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) confirmed the crash has closed a section of SH1 between Craig Road and SH96 (Glencoe Highway).
"Please follow directions of emergency services on scene," it said.
Diversions are in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
The serious crash unit has been notified.
