The University of Waikato's Tauranga campus has reopened after it received an apparent bomb threat from an anonymous person on Thursday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the university said a staff member was phoned at 1:33pm and was told there was a bomb on their Durham St campus.

The building was evacuated at 1:40pm and police were in attendance.

A tweet from the university says they have since learned the threat didn't involve a bomb.

"The police have now cleared the Durham Street Tauranga campus, and the building is now reopened."
