Commuters face further headaches on Tuesday with some Auckland train services still affected by a fire at a signal box.

On Monday, Auckland Transport (AT) said a fire had affected the KiwiRail-operated signals at Newmarket - impacting services on the southern, eastern, and western lines throughout the day.

The agency says western and eastern line services will operate as normal on Tuesday but southern line services will be running every 20 minutes. In a statement, AT said there would be disruptions until further notice.

At this stage, services departing Britomart will continue to travel via the eastern line every 20 minutes.

"Customers on the Onehunga line travelling towards Britomart can transfer at Penrose platform 1 to continue their journey towards Britomart," AT said in a statement.

Passengers travelling for Britomart to Onehunga, meanwhile, can board a southern or eastern line service to Otahuhu, and transfer to the southern line Penrose service to connect with a Onehunga service.
