Duncan Garner shares armed robbery terror at Auckland tavern

A weekend drink turned to terror for Duncan Garner when his local pub was robbed at gunpoint.

The AM Show host was enjoying a drink with friends at Richardson's Restaurant in Mount Roskill on Saturday when his evening took a frightening turn.

"In the door come four men, masked, one with a gun. An armed robbery took place in front of us," he told his co-hosts on Monday.

He says he went to confront the men but then thought better of it.

"I took a step towards them and then I pulled back and this man pointed at me," he said.

"You don't want to move because they might think you're lunging at them, so you stay still. It all happens so quickly."

Garner said the men stole money from the bar before sprinting out the door to a waiting car.

Police confirmed they attended an aggravated robbery at the bar.

"A worker at the premises was hit by one of the offenders who then fled in a waiting vehicle," a spokesperson told Newshub.

"Police are making follow up enquiries into the incident."

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact Auckland police on 105 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Richardson's Restaurant has been contacted for comment.
