Family of children orphaned in Cambridge crash release heartbreaking statement about their loss

The family of two children orphaned in a horrific crash near Cambridge have thanked the people who fought to save their parents.

Christopher O'Byrne and Brenda Kora were killed on Saturday when their car collided with a truck on a Cambridge Road.

They are survived by their 9-month-old son Eli and Kora's son from a previous relationship, 11-year-old Riley.

The couple's family say their deaths have broken their hearts.

"The sudden tragic loss of Chris and Brenda has left us all devastated beyond measure," they said in a statement on Wednesday.

They expressed their thanks to the people who worked to save Kora and O'Byrne's lives.

"We would like to make special mention of the members of the public and emergency services that did their very best to help Chris, Brenda and little Eli at the scene and afterwards,"

Eli was in the car when it crashed and is now recovering in Waikato Hospital.

"You are our heroes and you have our undying heartfelt gratitude for all that you do."

A Givealittle has been established for the two young boys and the family say they are humbled by the generosity they have been shown.

The fundraising page has raised more than $17000.
