A road worker received moderate injuries after a motorcyclist collided with them while fleeing police in central Auckland.

The incident happened just after 9am on Thursday when two motorcycles failed to stop for police.

Both motorcycles then fled through two red lights on Fanshawe St before one crashed at the Customs St West intersection, police confirmed in a statement.

The motorcycle hit a road worker who was left with moderate injuries. The rider received minor injuries and was arrested.

Police said he was charged for failing to stop, and further charges "are likely".

The second rider fled from the scene. Police are making enquiries to locate them and to determine how the incident occurred.
