Tauranga's District Commander Superintendent Andy McGregor is speaking to media following a shootout in the city on Thursday night.
One person was killed after fleeing police in a vehicle and then discharging a firearm. Police returned fire and killed the offender.
Road closures remain around the scene on Carmichael Road.
