One person has died after two vehicles collided west of Lake Taupo.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash on State Highway 4 near Manunui at about 6:06pm on Tuesday.
While initial reports suggested one person had sustained serious injuries, police later confirmed they had died.
State Highway 4 between Mahoe Rd and Tanoa St remained closed for several hours.
Police wanted to thank motorists for their patience.
