The Project's Patrick Gower paid an emotional tribute to Newshub reporter Emma Joliff who died on Thursday morning.

Emma passed away in Wellington after a battle with breast cancer and is survived by her husband John and two children Ruby and Luca.

The co-presenter of THREE's Newshub Nation weekend politics show had worked for MediaWorks for 13 years.

Gower spoke on The Project of his close friendship with the "exceptional broadcaster".

"I met Emma on my first day working on television and tagged along with her to learn the ropes. I've been good friends with her ever since," Gower said.

"Emma was someone who had a whole lot of warmth...I can never think of her getting angry at anyone.

"I send all the love to all the people who worked with her in Wellington past and present."

Newshub news director Hal Crawford described Emma as a reporter who "loved telling stories".

"Emma was such a lovely person, a real positive presence in the newsroom and a thorough professional."
