Trains across Auckland have been delayed on Monday morning, causing headaches for commuters.

Just before 7am, Auckland Transport said a "signal issue" at Newmarket had affected services on the southern, eastern, and western lines.

The agency says those services will be running every 20 minutes. In a statement, AT said a fire affected the signals operated by KiwiRail.

At this stage, there are no services to Penrose, Ellerslie, Greenlane, and Remuera.

"Western line services are now stopping at Newmarket station," AT said on Twitter about 8:30am.

Until further notice,  the southern line services will be travelling via the eastern line between Otahuhu and Britomart, while services on the Onehunga line are only running between Onehunga and Penrose.
