One dead after vehicles catch fire in Tasman District

One person has died after two vehicles caught fire in a crash in the South Island's Tasman District.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the two-car collision on the Coastal Highway (State Highway 60) about 2am on Sunday.

Police confirmed in a statement later in the morning one person had died and a scene examination had been completed.

"The occupants of the second vehicle were treated by St John."
