A man has been arrested after the alleged rape of a 24-year-old woman in a Waikato cemetery.
The attack happened about 12pm on Thursday after the victim was picked up by a vehicle in the Wharepoa Rd area, Hikutaia, a police spokesman said.
"Following the assault, the woman escaped and was found by members of the public, who alerted police.
"Police responded immediately and located a vehicle of interest."
A 50-year-old man was arrested and charged with rape a short time later.
He was due to appear in the Hamilton District Court on Friday, the spokesman said.
"Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance."
