A Canterbury woman has fallen to her death while out for a run on Monday night.

The woman's body was found in the water of Lyttelton Harbour at roughly 7:20pm. It's believed she was running with her dog in the small Canterbury town of Diamond Harbour, located on Banks Peninsula, when she reportedly slipped and fell down a bank.

About an hour earlier the woman was reported missing when she failed to return from her run, a police spokesperson confirmed to Newshub.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the Coroner.

The incident follows the discovery of a body in a Christchurch creek on Sunday afternoon. The death is also seen as unsuspicious and has been referred to the Coroner.
